BNSF STRUGGLES PERSIST FOR INTERNATIONAL LOADS IN CHICAGO
Congestion continues at BNSF’s Logistics Park Chicago terminal as chassis shortages have led to prolonged turn times for truckers using LPC or other BNSF spill over lots.
GULF COAST IMPORT SHARE GAINS TO OUTLAST ILWU NEGOTIATIONS: PORTS
The Gulf Coast ports of Houston and Mobile are the fastest and third-fastest growing gateways for US imports of Asian goods as shippers look to diversify away from the West Coast, regardless of the outcome of longshore labor talks.
PORT HOUSTON TO IMPLEMENT CONTAINER DWELL FEE TO IMPROVE CARGO FLUIDITY
Effective December 1, Port Houston will implement a “sustained import dwell fee” to incentivise cargo movement at the Barbour’s Cut Terminal and Bayport Container Terminal. Long-dwelling loaded import containers have been contributing to congestion at the terminals and a shortage of chassis.
The fee will be assessed directly to BCOs on the eighth day after the expiration of free time.

U.S. IMPORTS STABILIZE, BUT PORT DELAYS CONTINUE TO RECEDE
Port delay reductions did show signs of progress, but major East and Gulf Coast ports still have extended wait times versus major West Coast ports. Key economic indicators during this period paint a conflicting picture about their impact on future import volumes and, combined with remaining port delays and the West Coast labor situation, continue to point to congested and challenging global supply chain performance for the rest of 2022.
